What Are Conflict Diamonds?
Conflict diamonds — sometimes called “blood diamonds” — are diamonds mined in war zones and sold illicitly to finance armed conflict against legitimate, internationally recognized governments. Historically, they have been linked to parts of Africa where armed groups used brutal and inhumane methods to extract and export them.
LoveWeddingBands unconditionally opposes the trade in conflict diamonds. We do not purchase, stock, or sell any diamond that cannot be verified as conflict-free.
The Kimberley Process
To ensure your diamond is ethically sourced, we buy exclusively through suppliers certified under the Kimberley Process — a joint initiative of governments, the international diamond industry, and civil society organizations created to eliminate the trade in conflict diamonds.
Under the Kimberley Process, rough diamonds crossing international borders are accompanied by forgery-resistant certificates and unique serial numbers confirming their conflict-free origin. Thanks to this system, the vast majority of diamonds traded worldwide today are certified conflict-free.
Every diamond we sell comes from reputable suppliers who fully comply with the Kimberley Process and the World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties — the industry framework that supports the Kimberley Process and helps track diamonds through the supply chain.
Our Stance on Gold & Precious Metals
Gold mining can carry significant environmental and social consequences, and we take that responsibility seriously. Wherever possible, we use recycled precious metals — which make up the large majority of the gold and platinum in our jewelry — so that we rely as little as possible on newly mined material.
For any metal that is not recycled, we source exclusively from leading industry partners who practice ethical, responsible, and transparent operations. In keeping with the Golden Rules framework for responsible mining, we support the following standards:
- Respect all basic human rights as outlined in international conventions and law
- Obtain necessary permissions and consent from affected communities before mining
- Uphold workers’ rights, with a strong emphasis on health and safety
- Ensure operations are free from armed conflict or military involvement
- Avoid displacing communities as a result of mining activities
- Refrain from mining in protected conservation areas
- Never discharge mining waste into oceans, rivers, or other water bodies
- Prevent contamination of soil and groundwater with acid drainage or other toxic chemicals
